(foxnews.com) - A defiant Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday defended the U.S. decision allowing the United Nations to condemn Israeli settlements last week, saying the administration did so in the interest of preserving a “just and lasting peace” which he claimed is now threatened – even as Israeli officials describe the move as a betrayal.
During a farewell speech at the State Department, Kerry explained the decision in his most extensive terms yet. He said the U.S. could not “in good conscience” stand in the way of a resolution he said makes clear “both sides must act now to preserve the possibility of peace.”
“We did not take this decision lightly,” Kerry said.
The U.S. abstention on the U.N. Security Council resolution calling Israeli settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem a violation of international law allowed the measure to pass – and sent the already-turbulent relationship between the Obama and Netanyahu governments into its rockiest stretch yet.
Kerry said Wednesday the decision was about preserving a two-state solution, which he called the only way to a “just and lasting peace.”
But he said: “That future is now in jeopardy.”

John Kerry
John Forbes Kerry (born December 11, 1943) is an American politician who is the 68th and current United States Secretary of State. He has served in the United States Senate, and was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Kerry was the candidate of the Democratic Party in the 2004 presidential election, losing to George W. Bush.
Kerry was born in Aurora, Colorado and attended boarding school in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He graduated from Yale University class of 1966 with a political science major. Kerry enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1966, and during 1968–1969 served an abbreviated four-month tour of duty in South Vietnam as officer-in-charge (OIC) of a Swift Boat. For that service, he was awarded combat medals that include the Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and three Purple Heart Medals. Securing an early return to the United States, Kerry joined the Vietnam Veterans Against the War organization in which he served as a nationally recognized spokesman and as an outspoken opponent of the Vietnam War. He appeared in the Fulbright Hearings before the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs where he deemed United States war policy in Vietnam to be the cause of war crimes.

Jimmy Kimmel
James Christian "Jimmy" Kimmel (born November 13, 1967) is an American television host, producer, writer, comedian, voice actor, musician and radio personality. He is the host and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a late-night talk show that premiered on ABC in 2003. Kimmel also hosted the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 23, 2012.
Prior to hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he was best known as the co-host of Comedy Central's The Man Show and Win Ben Stein's Money. Kimmel has also produced such shows as Crank Yankers, Sports Show with Norm Macdonald, and The Andy Milonakis Show.
Early life
Kimmel was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in the neighborhood of Mill Basin the eldest of three children of Joan (née Iacono), a homemaker, and James John Kimmel, an IBM executive.
He is, and was raised, Catholic, and as a child served as an altar boy. Kimmel's mother is of Italian ancestry; two of his paternal great-great-grandparents were German emigrants, and his family's surname was "Kümmel" several generations back. The family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, when he was nine years old. He graduated from Ed W. Clark High School.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! is an American late-night talk show, created and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, and broadcast on ABC. The nightly hour-long show made its debut on January 26, 2003, as the first program to air immediately following ABC's coverage of Super Bowl XXXVII. Jimmy Kimmel Live! is produced by Jackhole Productions in association with ABC Studios. Having aired for more than twice as long as either the The Dick Cavett Show (1969–1975) or Politically Incorrect (1997–2002), it is the longest running late-night talk show in ABC's history at 13 years and counting as of 15 February 2016.
For its first ten years, the show aired at either the Midnight or 12:05 AM timeslot before moving to 11:35 pm ET beginning on January 8, 2013 to more directly compete with The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Show with David Letterman while bumping the ABC nightly news program Nightline to 12:35 am ET. In many countries, a Secretary of State is a mid-level post. It is usually a politically appointed position, although in some countries, such as Germany and Sweden, it can be filled by a member of the executive bureaucracy (civil service) as a political appointment. In the Holy See, there is one Secretary of State, who coordinates all the departments of the Roman Curia (that is, equivalent to a Prime Minister). In the United Kingdom a Secretary of State is a member of the Cabinet appointed by the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister (that is, equivalent to a Minister). In the Federal Government of the United States of America, there is one Secretary of State, the most senior political appointee responsible for foreign policy (that is, equivalent to a Foreign Minister).

Trey Gowdy
Harold Watson "Trey" Gowdy III (born August 22, 1964) is an American attorney, politician and former prosecutor. He currently serves as the U.S. Representative for South Carolina's 4th congressional district. He is a member of the Tea Party movement and the Republican Party. His district includes much of the Upstate region of South Carolina, including Greenville and Spartanburg.
Before his election to Congress, Gowdy was the solicitor (district attorney) for the state's Seventh Judicial Circuit, comprising Spartanburg and Cherokee counties. From 1994 to 2000, he was a federal prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina.
In 2014, Gowdy became chairman of a House Select Committee to investigate the 2012 Benghazi attack.
Early life, education
Trey Gowdy was born on August 22, 1964, in Greenville, South Carolina. He is the son of Harold Watson "Hal" Gowdy, Jr, MD and Novalene (née Evans). He grew up in Spartanburg, where as a young man, he delivered newspapers for the local daily, and worked at the community market. Gowdy graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1982. Gowdy earned a B.A. in history from Baylor University in 1986. He is a member of Kappa Omega Tau, at Baylor. In 1989, Gowdy earned a J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina. Whilst at law school, he was a member of the scholastic honor society "Wig and Robe." After earning his J.D., Gowdy clerked for Federal Judge Ross Anderson.

Synopsis
Former U.S. congressman John LeBoutillier (R) New York, for former U.S. congressman Bill Hendon (R) North Carolina, discussed the evidence for a sizable group of American POWs being left behind in Vietnam. LeBoutillier said that after the war, a deal was cut to pay billions to North Vietnam for rebuilding their country and returning the remaining POWs. But as the Watergate scandal broke, Nixon and Kissinger reneged on the arrangement, and around 700 prisoners were kept in Vietnam. Others have worked for 20 years in Washington DC to uncover the truth about the POWs, and there has been much intelligence that has referenced the missing soldiers. Specifically, spy satellite photographs, one of which (see below) showed "USA" spelled out in 12 ft. tall letters in a rice field, along with a 24 ft. tall "Walking K" an "escape and evasion" code only known to US pilots in N. Laos. In the early 80's, Reagan tried to get the POWs back, but advisors talked him out of it. By 1992, an investigation chaired by McCain and Kerry concluded there were no American refugees left in Vietnam. It is believed there could be as many as 500-600 POWs still alive there, and that the US government is engaged in a cover-up of the evidence for their existence.
A terrible truth is now emerging: Recently declassified documents show that American prisoners are to this day still crying out for help in Vietnam.
North Carolina congressman Bill Hendon and attorney Elizabeth A. Stewart- An Enormous Crime: The Definitive Account of American POW's Abandoned in Southeast Asia - presents evidence that 700 surviving U.S. airmen and infantry were marooned by the country for which they went to war, and to this day remain unacknowledged by that same country, the United States of America. In spite of decades during which these POWs have bravely signaled for help, and in which numerous refugees and visitors from Indochina have in turn corroborated their pleas, their heartrending tale has been dismissed as nothing more than conspiracy theory and rumor. Shockingly, the proof laid out in An Enormous Crime proves otherwise, such as the 1991 satellite images of two Americans in North Vietnam who had stamped out their pilot authenticator codes in the grass in the compound where they were being held. Another satellite photograph showed “USA” spelled out in 12-foot-tall letters in a rice field, along with a 24-foot-tall “Walking K” - an escape and evasion code only known to U.S. pilots in North Laos.
To begin to understand this travesty, it’s important to go back to the beginning: In 1972, negotiations began with the Vietnamese to settle scores. At issue was the return of American POWs. During late 1972 and early 1973, a deal was struck whereby half of the 1,400 US POWs held by North Vietnam would be released once military withdrawal began. The initial 700 or so American soldiers held captive were flown out of Hanoi during Operation Homecoming later in 1973. It was agreed upon by the Nixon administration and the North Vietnamese that the other 700 POWs would be released upon delivery of $4 billion in war reparations from the United States to the North Vietnamese government.
But as the Watergate scandal broke, Nixon reneged on the arrangement, and the last 700 POWs were kept in Vietnam. All future presidents after Nixon had their own reasons for failing to take notice off the 700 POWs left behind: For Carter it was the American public's desire to put Vietnam behind them, and later, the Iranian hostage crisis. In the early 80’s, Reagan tried to get the POWs back, but his advisors talked him out of it. The problem, the advisors told him, was that the fragile U.S.-backed El Salvadoran government was under serious threat of being overthrown by Russian and Cuban trained Communists, and Nicaragua didn’t look far behind. The advisors told Regan that it was necessary to overlook the POWs in order to put all American military efforts toward the darkening South American situation.
As the 80’s gave way to the 90’s, re-engagement of Vietnam by the U.S. government became a priority. Thus George H.W. Bush helped maintain the cover up of mounting evidence that hundreds of POWs still survived in Indochina, as did Bill Clinton, who himself struck down all sanctions and embargoes against Vietnam in 1992. But even in that same year, satellite photos over Vietnam revealed airman-specific 4-digit authenticator codes proving almost conclusively that as of 1992, U.S. airmen downed in Vietnam during the war remained alive and were signaling for help.

Synopsis
Former U.S. congressman John LeBoutillier (R) New York, for former U.S. congressman Bill Hendon (R) North Carolina, discussed the evidence for a sizable group of American POWs being left behind in Vietnam. LeBoutillier said that after the war, a deal was cut to pay billions to North Vietnam for rebuilding their country and returning the remaining POWs. But as the Watergate scandal broke, Nixon and Kissinger reneged on the arrangement, and around 700 prisoners were kept in Vietnam. Others have worked for 20 years in Washington DC to uncover the truth about the POWs, and there has been much intelligence that has referenced the missing soldiers. Specifically, spy satellite photographs, one of which (see below) showed "USA" spelled out in 12 ft. tall letters in a rice field, along with a 24 ft. tall "Walking K" an "escape and evasion" code only known to US pilots in N. Laos. In the early 80's, Reagan tried to get the POWs back, but advisors talked him out of it. By 1992, an investigation chaired by McCain and Kerry concluded there were no American refugees left in Vietnam. It is believed there could be as many as 500-600 POWs still alive there, and that the US government is engaged in a cover-up of the evidence for their existence.
A terrible truth is now emerging: Recently declassified documents show that American prisoners are to this day still crying out for help in Vietnam.
North Carolina congressman Bill Hendon and attorney Elizabeth A. Stewart- An Enormous Crime: The Definitive Account of American POW's Abandoned in Southeast Asia - presents evidence that 700 surviving U.S. airmen and infantry were marooned by the country for which they went to war, and to this day remain unacknowledged by that same country, the United States of America. In spite of decades during which these POWs have bravely signaled for help, and in which numerous refugees and visitors from Indochina have in turn corroborated their pleas, their heartrending tale has been dismissed as nothing more than conspiracy theory and rumor. Shockingly, the proof laid out in An Enormous Crime proves otherwise, such as the 1991 satellite images of two Americans in North Vietnam who had stamped out their pilot authenticator codes in the grass in the compound where they were being held. Another satellite photograph showed “USA” spelled out in 12-foot-tall letters in a rice field, along with a 24-foot-tall “Walking K” - an escape and evasion code only known to U.S. pilots in North Laos.

2. Going back to the teaser trailer for Sleepy Hollow. The introduction to the show before it aired was already a problem. The trailer was ... dumb.
3. The problem with the show at the beginning was the impression that the teaser trailer gave to people turned them off and made them immediately downplay the show.
4. Can you describe the plot? Or do you have to explain it? Do you have to explain the ENTIRE show to someone or can you sum it up? Sleepy Hollow is difficult to describe. There's no succinct description. The trailer's "netflix"-y type description was dumb ... Bottom line: The short description isn't as appealing as the show itself and it turned them off instead.
5. The truth of Sleepy Hollow is that it's complicated and not in a convoluted way, but in a "its a complete story you have to watch from the beginning to the end".
6. The show is better than the description. When you try to grab an audience with a quick, inaccurate trailer, and a quick description ... you can't sell them on it.
7. Nicole on Arsenio ... how she tried to describe the show there was this OVERWHELMING awkward silence. It's a short interview ... you have a half a minute to discuss the show ... Her explanation of the show is really ... accurate but awkward.
8. You can see even before she starts ... she's not sure how to begin explaining it. Then she tries to explain it deeper ... she's trying hard to get in there how complex and deep the show is ...
9. The problem really comes down to the fact that people - most American viewers - are too dumb and too impatient to invest the time and focus into a complete story. They want a quick summary to hook them.
10. So many people judged the trailer and a crap description and weren't interested.
11. Pilots are for MONEY PEOPLE. It's to get the money guys interested in the rest of the episodes. The whole show isn't just the pilot. The whole show is 13 episodes. Not just one. It's a whole story that you have to watch in it's entirety.
12. The shows that hardly EVER get renewed are the ones that are written as a whole story and people don't want to wait ... It's a LAYERED experience. You have to watch the WHOLE THING to understand it as a complete experience.
14. Good stories require MORE TIME and MORE FOCUS. You can't just consume them in pieces like candy and then forget about them.
15. The people that consume the entire season at one time on DVR ... THOSE people are getting the proper experience because they can watch the whole story the way it should be.
16. Television destroys the idea of a COMPLETE story.
17. Most audiences members don't watch with FOCUS. They watch in such lazy ways and then they judge the show THROUGH their completely messed up perceptions.

18. The characters in Sleepy Hollow are all great and well balanced.
19. Tom and Nicole play their roles in believable ways. They take the roles seriously.
20. Abbie - thanks to Kerry Washington we even have Abby Mills. She would have been a blond otherwise.
21. Abbie - Nicole is a beautifully expressive actress. She's a full face actress like Janel Parrish.
22. Elaine does her Abbie Mills impression and it's PERFECT.
23. Abbie - Nicole has the best non-verbals EVAR. All of her expressions deliver mood perfectly.
24. Tom Mison is a STAGE actor ... he is incredibly STAGE-Y he carries around a piece of stage wood and a spotlight everywhere he goes.
25. Stage actors bring a great level of gravitas that works wonderfully with the right cast to play around them
26. My favorite thing about Tom Mison is his "swish hand" ...
27. Tom walks like he's on broken glass or incredibly delicate ice. Tom's swish hand is quirky and wonderful but I think it's an unconscious thing.
28. Tom's swish hand has a mind of it's own and I think he's always constantly petting an invisible dog.

30. What I love about actors is what they bring of their own personalities into the characters.

32. The relationship between he and Abbie is perfectly laid out in such a short amount of dialog in the first episode. It's not difficult to create believable and lovable characters with very little dialog.

5. The truth of Sleepy Hollow is that it's complicated and not in a convoluted way, but in a "its a complete story you have to watch from the beginning to the end".
6. The show is better than the description. When you try to grab an audience with a quick, inaccurate trailer, and a quick description ... you can't sell them on it.
7. Nicole on Arsenio ... how she tried to describe the show there was this OVERWHELMING awkward silence. It's a short interview ... you have a half a minute to discuss the show ... Her explanation of the show is really ... accurate but awkward.
8. You can see even before she starts ... she's not sure how to begin explaining it. Then she tries to explain it deeper ... she's trying hard to get in there how complex and deep the show is ...
9. The problem really comes down to the fact that people - most American viewers - are too dumb and too impatient to invest the time and focus into a complete story. They want a quick summary to hook them.
10. So many people judged the trailer and a crap description and weren't interested.
11. Pilots are for MONEY PEOPLE. It's to get the money guys interested in the rest of the episodes. The whole show isn't just the pilot. The whole show is 13 episodes. Not just one. It's a whole story that you have to watch in it's entirety.
12. The shows that hardly EVER get renewed are the ones that are written as a whole story and people don't want to wait ... It's a LAYERED experience. You have to watch the WHOLE THING to understand it as a complete experience.
14. Good stories require MORE TIME and MORE FOCUS. You can't just consume them in pieces like candy and then forget about them.
15. The people that consume the entire season at one time on DVR ... THOSE people are getting the proper experience because they can watch the whole story the way it should be.
16. Television destroys the idea of a COMPLETE story.
17. Most audiences members don't watch with FOCUS. They watch in such lazy ways and then they judge the show THROUGH their completely messed up perceptions.

19. Tom and Nicole play their roles in believable ways. They take the roles seriously.

21. Abbie - Nicole is a beautifully expressive actress. She's a full face actress like Janel Parrish.
22. Elaine does her Abbie Mills impression and it's PERFECT.
23. Abbie - Nicole has the best non-verbals EVAR. All of her expressions deliver mood perfectly.
24. Tom Mison is a STAGE actor ... he is incredibly STAGE-Y he carries around a piece of stage wood and a spotlight everywhere he goes.
25. Stage actors bring a great level of gravitas that works wonderfully with the right cast to play around them
26. My favorite thing about Tom Mison is his "swish hand" ...
27. Tom walks like he's on broken glass or incredibly delicate ice. Tom's swish hand is quirky and wonderful but I think it's an unconscious thing.
